Final results. A summary of the workshops.
First things first: the work was worth it. Even if we might have lost 10 years of our lives. A face-to-face event in the middle of the Corona period with participants from Germany was a challenge that everyone more than met. An excellent hygiene concept, wonderful catering in a glass, and an incredible ventilation system kept us from sweating on the hottest days of the year so far. Frank clearly had fun.

The results are surprising.
Messaging is seen by many participants as necessary rather than a game-changer. The focus was clearly on planning and the ideas surrounding it. Task-oriented documentation, referred to by Thorsten as the "one more thing," garnered significantly more attention than expected. It is not surprising that many issues were addressed in the individual software solutions of the companies but not resolved to satisfaction. Every software already has "something similar." However, it is often not used for reasons of cost or complexity. It quickly became clear to everyone that a continuous flow of information must be ensured, as this is completely lacking.
The ecosystem is convincing.
Instead of reinventing existing features in other systems, it is more important to foster information exchange and to think about an architecture that enables – and minimizes – bidirectional data flow. It's not about merging systems through interfaces, but about specifically seeking information that helps collaborating colleagues. However, this information should be relevant and must be continuously available.
Time tracking is the linchpin.
Although companies frequently use time tracking, there is no solution on the market that doesn't show weaknesses. Employee IDs, break bookings, or technical requirements. Many things stand in the way of productive use. SMARTCHILLI Track solves these issues, and all companies were very impressed. At this point, the integration has already taken place. From there, further development ensues.
Messaging
We have long considered this a central topic. However, the industry is very satisfied with existing solutions and "doesn't need another channel." Since data exchange for personnel planning must be ensured, messaging will be developed cross-company in a first step.
There is a great need for action here. No solution is truly practical. This is not surprising, as planning is rarely done alone. Here, time and resources are maximally strained. Auto-scheduling is still hard to imagine, but automation tools are considered helpful. Scheduling involves clear logical steps, even if not immediately apparent. Through a clever combination of data, a lot can still be simplified here. What's clear is: planning is the wrong word for the generally prevailing way of working.
Summary
It was a lot of fun and brought new insights. The wish for a repetition in autumn was expressed and we are happy to pursue it. Also, motivated by these workshops, we will do a roadshow in autumn/winter and present the project to entire regions in smaller groups.
Many thanks to all participants!
